(1922-2003) Oxford MS/Syracuse NY

Sulton Rogers grew up in Oxford, MS, and lived in Syracuse NY for most of his adult life. He took up woodcarving as a way of staying awake during long night shifts at a chemical plant. Rogers claimed that his art was a reflection of his dreams. He is perhaps best known for his grostegue human figures and "haints", though he also carved animals and larger tableaux like "haint houses" which included several carved figures. He returned to MS in 1984.
